About China Minmetals
China Minmetals Corporation (hereinafter referred to as “China Minmetals” or “the Company”), founded in 1950, remains steadfast in its founding mission of “contributing to human progress through developing the mining industry.” It is accelerating its drive to build a world-class metal and mineral enterprise group with global competitiveness, and to provide robust resource security for global economic growth and low‑carbon development.
Over its more than 70 years of development, China Minmetals has generally gone through three major stages. From its founding to the period before reform and opening up, China Minmetals operated as a specialized trading company, serving as the country’s primary channel for the import and export of metal mineral products, non-metallic mineral products, hardware, and building materials, thereby helping secure critical supply routes for economic development. Following the launch of reform and opening up, China Minmetals embarked on a path of restructuring and mergers, transforming from a traditional trading company into a diversified, entity-based operation and successfully completing its strategic shift to become a large-scale metal mining enterprise group. In the new era, China Minmetals has pioneered a globally recognized, full-industry-chain development advantage that integrates resource exploration, design and construction, development and operations, smelting and processing, trade and logistics, technology R&D, financial capital, and asset management services. Its business scope covers metal minerals, metallurgical construction, technology industries, trade and logistics, financial services, and real estate development.
In the metal mining sector, China Minmetals holds substantial reserves of metal mineral resources. It owns a total of 41 mines across China and overseas, spanning Asia, Oceania, South America and Africa, of which 15 are overseas. These include world-class producing mines such as the Las Bambas Copper Mine in Peru, Dugald River Lead-Zinc Mine in Australia, the Ramu Nickel-Cobalt Mine in Papua New Guinea, the Khoemacau copper-silver mine in Botswana, and the Shizhuyuan Polymetallic Mine, as well as the Chaerhan Salt Lake, the world’s second-largest soluble potash-magnesium salt deposit. China Minmetals possesses 28 types of mineral resources. Its reserves of tungsten, crystalline graphite, and bismuth rank among the highest globally, while its reserves of lithium, potassium, zinc, lead, antimony, chromium, and fluorspar are within the world’s top tier. Its reserves of copper, iron, nickel, and cobalt are among the leading tiers in China.
In the field of metallurgical construction, China Minmetals is a pioneer and a major force in the development of China’s steel and nonferrous metals industry. It has undertaken nearly all large- and medium-scale steel construction projects in China, built a number of domestic nonferrous metal industrial bases, and led major greenfield steel design and construction projects worldwide. China Minmetals holds five Class-A comprehensive engineering design qualifications and 50 special general contracting qualifications for construction. It has contributed to the issuance of 80 international standards and 735 national standards. These capabilities form an integrated, full-industry-chain advantage covering consulting, planning, surveying, design, equipment manufacturing and packaged supply, construction, and operations for metallurgical construction across nearly all metal types—a truly distinctive competitive edge. Building on its metallurgical expertise, the company has expanded into intelligent construction, mastering a range of leading technologies, patents, and standards in areas such as infrastructure, rail transit, high-end residential construction, urban renewal, ecological protection, and theme parks. These innovations have been successfully applied to numerous landmark and demonstrative major projects around the world, creating significant competitive advantages.
In the technology-driven industrial sector, the company strives to lead by example in advancing high-level technological self-reliance and strength, building a modern industrial system, and cultivating new quality productive forces. It continues to drive deep integration between technological innovation and industrial application. China Minmetals has 19 former research institutes that have transformed into market-oriented entities, along with 48 national-level R&D platforms and over 200 provincial- and ministerial-level research platforms. It hosts the sole national technology innovation center for the efficient development of strategic and rare metal mineral resources in the mineral resources field. China Minmetals employs more than 30,000 scientific and technical personnel and holds over 66,800 valid patents. It has led or participated in the development of more than 2,600 international, national, and industrial technical standards. A wide array of major scientific and technological innovations serve as powerful engines driving the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, as well as the cultivation and expansion of emerging and future industries.
In the trade and logistics sector, China Minmetals operates a global trade and distribution network renowned for its exceptional warehousing, logistics, and distribution capabilities. As a leading large-scale service provider in China’s circulation of metal mineral commodities, it distinguishes itself through substantial operational scale, broad network coverage, and comprehensive integrated services. China Minmetals holds a leading position in China in both the trading of bulk metallurgical raw materials and the engineered supply of steel products for construction projects.
In the financial capital sector, the company has established a comprehensive financial licensing framework covering trusts, financial leasing, securities, futures, commercial banking, funds, and insurance. Staying true to its role as an industry-focused financial institution, the company pursues steady, prudent, and compliant development centered on its core responsibilities and principal businesses, delivering high-quality services to support the development of its modern industrial system.
In the field of real estate development, as a central SOE in this sector, China Minmetals adheres to the “quality homes” standard and has developed a number of well-known projects across more than 20 provinces in China, municipalities, and autonomous regions. While strengthening and optimizing its real estate development operations, the Company is actively transitioning into an “urban integrated operation and service provider”, continuously enhancing its brand as a central SOE recognized for its “industry-city services”.
