On October 17, Minmetals held the opening ceremony of the “Spark Class under Eagle Program”. Party Secretary and Chairman He Wenbo, Party Group members and Deputy General Manager Li Fuli and Jiao Jian attended and addressed the ceremony. Personnel in charge of relevant functional departments of Minmetals, leadership members and some personnel in charge of Minmetals International, China Minmetals Non-ferrous Metals Co., Ltd., and China Tungsten and High-tech Materials Co., Ltd. attended the ceremony.
The ceremony was hosted by Zhang Wenjin, Deputy Head of the Party Organization Department (Human Resources Department) of Minmetals. He first introduced the background of establishment of the Spark Class and the specific features of the training program, particularly the origin of the name of the Spark Class: meaning a single spark which can start a prairie fire and which can be handed down from generation to generation. Then, the 38 students presented themselves through an introduction, expressing their understanding of and expectations for the Eagle Program. Leaders of Minmetals and business units including Li Fuli and Jiao Jian made their impromptu speech. While extending warm congratulations to the 38 students, Li Fuli asked them to study seriously, diligently think and apply what they have learned to practical work. He also called upon them to continue to work hard, and truly become the “eagle” to meet the needs of the company through Minmetals training and practical work. The Eagle Program is actually more than a training program. More importantly, it is a journey to discover and training talents. He hoped that all the students will be longing for success and passionate about becoming an entrepreneur through continuous learning and growth.
Minmetals started the “Flowing Molten Iron Class”, the first class under the Eagle Program this spring, inspiring hope. In October, in the golden season of autumn, the Spark Class under the Eagle Program was started, spreading hope and triggering more brilliant achievements for Minmetals that was forging ahead, said He Wenbo, the chief architect of the Eagle Program. He also stressed that we must profoundly understand the talent strategy under the new situation and develop human capital advantages considering the overall situation of reform and development of Minmetals. In times of business difficulties, we should attach more importance to personnel training and reserves; we must fully understand the Youth Leadership Program. He also set the standard for personnel training: to be merit oriented, talent based and performance assessed. At the same time, he expressed his ardent expectations of the 38 students: to actively improve themselves with ambitious goals and down-to-earth efforts and stay passionate and responsible, so as to make their contributions to the building of a world-class state-owned investment company in the metal and mining area.
Finally, He Wenbo presented the letters of appointment and admission to the internal instructors and student representative. The student representative made a speech, pledging to improve themselves and make progress together with the team through concrete action.
The Eagle Program, better known as the “Youth Leadership Program 2025”, is a talent training program that has received close attention from Minmetals. As a forward-looking and significant part of the human resources strategy, it brings together expectations from many young employees. Since the successful implementation of the “Flowing Molten Iron Class”, the first session of the program, it has been widely recognized and well received, thanks to its remarkable results. Considering the business relevance and talent agglomeration effect, the students of the second session are mainly from the staff of Minmetals International, China Minmetals Non-ferrous Metals Co., Ltd., China Tungsten and High-tech Materials Co., Ltd. and some functional departments. Through a series of selection processes, including independent registration, qualification review, psychological evaluation, theme report, full English scenario simulation, and theme research, 38 young talents were finally selected.
The successful opening of the Spark Class marked another solid step of Minmetals towards the goal of echelon-oriented, systematic and strategic personnel training. In addition, Minmetals will continue to draw lessons from the program, so as to produce replicable management tools and means, develop a set of ideas and systems, promote innovation in personnel training and appointment mechanism, and open a new chapter in the deepening of human resources reform of Minmetals.
