China Minmetals Signed ¡ç400-million Electrolytic Copper Purchase Contract with KGHM

On January 25, China Minmetals and KGHM Polska Miedz S.A. signed the 2010 electrolytic copper purchase contract worth of USD 400 million in Beijing. President Zhou Zhongshu, Senior Vice President Li Fuli, MOFCOM Vice Minister Gao Hucheng, KGHM Chairman Herbert Wirth, Mr. Zdzislaw Gawlik, Vice Minister of Polish State-owned Assets Ministry and Secretary of State, and Mr. Tadeusz Chomicki, Polish ambassador to China attended the signing ceremony. President Zhou, Vice Minister Gao, Secretary of State Mr. Gawlik, KGHM Chairman Mr. Wirth and Ambassador Chomicki gave speeches at the ceremony.

Mr. Jiao Jian, deputy General Manager (in charge) of China Minmetals Non-ferrous Metals Co., Ltd. and Copper Department manager Gu Liangmin, KGHM Vice Chairman Mr. Maciej Tybura and Trade & Guarantee Department manager Mr. Jaroslaw Romanowski signed the "2010 Electrolytic Copper Purchase Contract" on behalf of the respective parties.

In his speech, President Zhou introduced that by 2009, China Minmetals has imported accumulatively 500,000 tons of electrolytic copper from KGHM worth of USD 2 billion, making great contributions to bilateral trade. The "2010 Electrolytic Copper Purchase Contract" to be signed soon will be a new milestone in the cooperation between the two corporations. President Zhou believed that China Minmetals and KGHM should take this as an opportunity to exert their own advantages, expand their cooperation from trade to wider areas, and pursue more effective and mutually beneficial cooperation on deeper levels.

Vice Minister Gao gave high comments on the long-term and stable cooperation between China Minmetals and KGHM in the past 12 years, and expressed MOFCOM¡¯s commitment as a government body to spare no efforts in supporting the cooperation and development of the two corporations. KGHM Chairman Wirth highly praised China Minmetals for its fulfillment of the long-term purchase contract against the general background of the global financial crisis and the weak consumption in the West.

Before the signing ceremony, President Zhou and Senior Vice President Li met with the KGHM delegation headed by Chairman Wirth in China Minmetals headquarters. President Zhou expressed his warm welcome and thanked Vice Minister Gawlik and Ambassador Chomicki for attending the meeting. Both sides reviewed their 12-year friendly cooperation and showed their wishes to enrich and deepen the relationship.

Leaders of relevant departments of China Minmetals also attended the ceremony.
